Watermain Installation and Existing Valve Chamber Upgrades | Applewood Hills Park and Trail, Burnhamthorpe Road, Eastgate Parkway Updates

November 24th, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Chamber wall construction is ongoing, with forms and rebar being put in place
  • Boulevard restoration with new sod was finished last week
  • Multi-Use Path (MUP) is ready for asphalt paving this week
  • Small internal pipes have been installed inside the chamber

 

Eastgate:

  • Large 2400mm tee and valves have been delivered and are being installed
  • Temporary supports for the valves and tee are being set up

 

 

November 14th, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Building temporary platforms and scaffolding for the next phase of work
  • Starting to tie rebar for the upper chamber walls
  • Beginning installation of 300mm process pipes and valves inside the chamber
  • Starting restoration of the boulevard along Burnhamthorpe
  • Removing steel shoring beams as backfilling continues

 

Eastgate:

  • Adjusting shoring and removing beams to prepare for the next phase of construction

 

November 4, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • All major CPP work is done, with only finishing tasks left—like welding, sealing joints, and backfilling
  • Next level of shoring and beams will be removed, and the area around the chamber will be filled with u-fill
  • Waterproofing of the lower chamber walls is complete

 Eastgate:

  • Valve support formwork and concrete pouring are underway
  • Forms from the base slab have been removed, and waterproofing is being installed
  • Backfilling around the base slab with u-fill is in progress
  • Starting to remove lower shoring beams where work is finished, in preparation for wall tying and formwork

Oct 31, 2025 

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Crews are continuing to install large concrete pipes (1800mm) toward the boulevard
  • Concrete wall repairs on the chamber are ongoing, with waterproofing starting where repairs are complete
  • New concrete pipes and formwork were delivered to support the next phase of chamber construction
  • Teams are preparing the site ahead of the expected heavy rain

Eastgate:

  • No work this week while the concrete base cures and strengthens

October 24,2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Crews continued digging, installing concrete pipes, and backfilling
  • Work is wrapping up on Chamber 1, including removing formwork and completing concrete touch-ups

Eastgate:

  • The concrete base slab for Chamber 2 has been poured

 


Oct 20, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:
• Crews removed the formwork from last week’s concrete wall pours
• Excavation and pipe installation are continuing from the chamber toward Burnhamthorpe Road
• Signage has been installed and the multi-use path (MUP) is temporarily closed to allow for feedermain work in the area

Eastgate:
• Work continues on tying steel rebar for the base slab

October 15th, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • The concrete wall was poured last week
  • Crews are continuing to dig and install pipes toward Burnhamthorpe Road

Eastgate:

  • Work is ongoing to tie the steel rebar for the base slab

October 8th, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Crews are wrapping up formwork and scaffolding work today to get ready for the concrete pour
  • Crews are installing more pipe from the east side of the chamber toward Burnhamthorpe Road
  • Decast is on site to weld the sections together

Eastgate:

  • Crews are tying steel bars to prepare for the concrete base

October 1st, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Work is ongoing to install pipes and connection joints on the east side of the chamber
  • Workers are securing steel reinforcement (rebar) around wall openings where pipes will be installed

Eastgate:

  • Work is continuing building the formwork for the concrete base of the chamber

September 24,2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Excavation work continues under the sanitary sewer, with installation of temporary supports underway
  • Crews are also beginning beam installation on the east side and removing old sheet piles (used to stabilize the ground)
  • Following Monday’s heavy rain, crews are cleaning up the work area and stabilizing the trench sides using controlled backfill material (U-fill) to ensure safety and support
  • Material deliveries are ongoing – a 1800mm spool piece for the chamber was delivered

Eastgate:

  • Continuing to remove concrete debris from the site and safely haul it away

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe 1800 feedermain:

  • Started excavation and support work (shoring) on the east side of the chamber

Burnhamthorpe 400mm watermain:

  • Using hydro vac to expose the watermain and adding temporary supports before final connections are made
  • Backfilling over completed sections of watermain before making final connections
  • Delivery of 400mm CPP pipe pieces for closing the connection

Eastgate:

  • Removed and hauled away more concrete debris from the old culvert
  • Continuing to weld beams at the bottom of the shoring before final digging to the planned depth

Burnhamthorpe 1800 feedermain:

  • Started excavation and support work (shoring) on the east side of the chamber

Burnhamthorpe 400mm watermain:

  • Using hydro vac to expose the watermain and adding temporary supports before final connections are made
  • Backfilling over completed sections of watermain before making final connections
  • Delivery of 400mm CPP pipe pieces for closing the connection

Eastgate:

  • Removed and hauled away more concrete debris from the old culvert
  • Continuing to weld beams at the bottom of the shoring before final digging to the planned depth

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe 1800 feedermain:

  • Completed the installation of the coupler and piping on the north side of the chamber
  • Preparing and starting excavation on the east side of the chamber for the next pipe installation

Burnhamthorpe 400mm watermain:

  • Putting protective tape and coating on metal parts

Eastgate:

  • Welding continues installing supports along the base of the excavation
  • Cleaning up concrete debris from earlier work to be hauled offsite

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Continuing work on both sides of the chamber to install new connectors and large water pipes
  • Precast concrete pieces were delivered to the site
  • Ongoing work to build forms around pipes in wall openings on the north and south sides

Eastgate:

  • Welding continues installing supports along the base of the excavation

September 3,2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Completed installation of settlement joints on the concrete pressure pipe just south of the chamber
  • Continued excavation on the north side of the chamber
  • Ongoing removal of old pipe sections and support structures north of the chamber
  • Adjusted and removed sheet piles to prepare for upcoming pipe installations on the north side
  • Final connections scheduled to be completed by September 14th

Eastgate:

  • Concrete removal work is still underway as we prepare the site
  • Excavation of the chamber continues, with material being hauled off site
  • Ongoing cleanup, leveling, and clearing at the bottom of the excavation
  • Welders are on site installing supports along the base of the excavation

August 26, 2025

Here are the construction activities we have been working on since the last update:

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Continued digging and installing support structures around the north and south pipes outside the chamber (Aug 25th Burnhamthorpe compound photo)
  • Continued removing sections of the old watermain pipe
  • Preparing to install new pipeline sections at the settlement joint

Eastgate:

  • Continued to dig and remove old concrete pipes and walls, including cutting them as needed
  • Continued moving materials off-site

June 27, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Completed concrete wall pour in the chamber
  • Installed waterproofing for base slab of the chamber

 

Burnhamthorpe Trail near Golden Orchard:

  • Installed base of chamber and flanges (used to connect pipes and valves)

 

Eastgate:

  • Subcontractor Powell completed concrete piles used to for drilling and pouring concrete
  • Atlas on site to install eductor wells (a type of well used in dewatering systems to lower groundwater levels) ahead of excavation work

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Completed concrete base pour for the chamber
  • Began installation of upper half of the form work and rebar for the chamber
  • Cleaned up for the weekend

 

Eastgate:

  • Subcontractor Powell continued putting down steel sheets (used for trench shoring and to stop water from coming into the trench) to continue excavating
  • Cleaned up and secured site for the weekend

June 17, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Finished rebar placement
  • Continued installation of form work for the base of the chamber

 

Eastgate:

  • Continued drilling and pouring concrete for shoring installation (temporary structures used to stabilize areas during construction activities)

  • Continuing preparatory works for the 400mm watermain commissioning and final connections

  • Continued drilling and pouring concrete for shoring installation (temporary structures used to stabilize areas during construction activities)

June 3, 2025

 

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Completed the excavation and shoring installation on Monday, June 2nd
  • Began pouring the mud slabs into the bottom of the excavation for the foundation work
  • Began rebar placement for the chamber

 

Eastgate:

  • Continued drilling and pouring concrete for shoring installation (temporary structures used to stabilize areas during construction activities)

  • Began removing the existing concrete pressure pipe from the ground

  • Continued excavation and hauling of material from site

Eastgate:

  • Continued removing water from the ground

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Completed putting down the steel sheets for excavation
  • Continued shoring (temporary structures used to stabilize areas during excavation / construction activities) installation including welding the supports
  • Began excavation work up to the first level of shoring (as shown in the attached pictures)

  • Continuing to put down steel sheets (used for trench shoring and to stop water from coming into the trench) to continue excavating

  • Cleaned up and backfilled shaft
  • Continued sheet piling work for chamber in the park

Eastgate:

  • Continued removal of the concrete culvert
  • Continued removal of the existing pipe
  • Began installing temporary pad for crane and drill ahead of shoring installation

April 17, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Successfully completed the pipe pulling at Burnhamthorpe and Corbet
  • Demobilized and cleaned up at Burnhamthorpe and Corbet
  • Began removal and backfilling for shoring system related to the drilling work

 

Eastgate:

  • Continued with the concrete barrier removal and began removing the 1800mm pipe

April 15, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Closed intersection at Corbet and Burnhamthorpe
  • Set up equipment, material and excavation for drilling work

Eastgate:

  • Completed remaining bulkhead installations and survey of pipe joint
  • Continued excavation and removal of concrete barrier and fittings around existing feedermain

 

April 11, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Delivered materials to site
  • Complete remaining horizontal drilling work ahead of road closure
  • Road closure on Corbet Drive from Burnhamthorpe Road East to Ibis Court commencing Monday, April 14th

Eastgate:

  • Excavated and removed concrete barrier above existing watermain being replaced
  • Continued dewatering of groundwater
  • Cut into the existing watermain to remove water from inside the pipe

 

April 8, 2025

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Continued with chamber shoring excavation
  • Daylighted existing sanitary (hydrovac used to excavate and remove soil/debris around the existing sanitary allowing for safe exposure of the pipe)
  • Continued with the horizontal drilling work ahead of pipe pulling next week
  • Street sweeping and general housekeeping was performed
  • Road closure on Corbet Drive from Burnhamthorpe Road East to Ibis Court is commencing next Monday, April 14th

 

Eastgate:

  • Continued removing water from the ground
  • Continued excavation and removal of concrete barriers overtop of the existing watermain
  • Started prepping for shoring installation

Burnhamthorpe:

  • Removed soil and installed temporary working surface in the park
  • Remobilized for the horizontal drilling work
  • Removed and hauled away material with general housekeeping

Construction will be starting Monday, April 14 until it is completed on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
