Please be advised that the lifecycle replacement of the playground at Shelby Park commenced today.
The project experienced delays due to pipeline permit approvals and additional site requirements mandated by TransNorthern.
Construction is anticipated to take approximately eight weeks to complete, weather permitting. The playground will be closed for the duration of construction and is expected to reopen during the week of July 13.
Scope of Work:
- Replacement of playground equipment
- Installation of engineered wood fibre safety surfacing
- Construction of paved trail connections and an accessible playground ramp
- Installation of new seating
Alternate Playground Locations:
- Allison’s Park – 575 Willowbank Trail (approximately 700 m walking distance)
- Rathwood District Park – 1095 Rathburn Road East (approximately 1 km walking distance)
Service disruption signage has been installed on-site. 311 and relevant City staff have been notified of the construction activities.
