Update – December 14, 2021

Due to the winter weather the city received, this project schedule has been delayed to a point where the Golden Orchard Speed Hump installations will not be completed in 2021.

The speed hump installation will remain on our schedule and will be the first location tended to in the 2022 City Repair construction schedule.

Update – September 9, 2021

Thank you for those who attended the virtual meeting and those who provided their feedback regarding the placements of speed humps located between Burnhamthrope and Bloor along Golden Orchard. After careful consideration taking the feedback from the community and the recommendations from City Staff, the original proposal that went to General Committee of the 8 speed humps will implemented. The outcome of this project is to have traffic calming in this neighbourhood and based on recommendations from staff the most effective way of doing so is with 8 speed humps. Construction for traffic calming along project 1 & 2 for Golden Orchard will be completed by the end of the construction period this year.

Update – August 11, 2021

I have arranged a virtual community meeting for Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. to provide residents with an update on the proposed traffic calming on the Golden Orchard Drive between Burnhamthrope Road East to Bloor Street

On June 23rd the Golden Orchard Drive Traffic Calming was passed at General Committee with the request from Applewood Hills and Heights Resident assocation to have an additional conversation regarding the number of speed cushions located in this stretch.

In response to ongoing concerns from the public, and following a receipt of a petition from area residents requesting physical traffic calming on Golden Orchard Drive, between Willowbank Trail and Rathburn Road East, a traffic calming plan was developed for public consideration.

Two sections of Golden Orchard Drive with identified speeding concerns around school zones have been prioritized as locations that would benefit from the installation of traffic calming measures. They are as follows;

  1. Willowbank Trail to Rathburn Road East (Project 1)
  2. Burnhamthorpe Road East to Bloor Street (Project 2)

An online engagement session was conducted on the City of Mississauga website between March 8 and April 19.

Following the public comment period, the Transportation and Works Department reviewed all the comments provided by the community and summarised the results.

The overall impression by staff is that there is sufficient support for physical traffic calming among the local residents.
