Burnhamthorpe Community Centre Redevelopment

The City of Mississauga has completed its renovation of existing building and new addition to the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre.

The re-opening ceremony for Burnhamthorpe Community Centre was held on Monday, February 19, 2024 (Family Day). With over 4000 residents and community groups, the day featured several activities and performances including opening ceremonies featuring Elder Gary Sault performing a traditional ceremony, and Mikey Bloom, who performed the new Mississauga Anthem!

Project overview
The redevelopment will include the renovation of existing infrastructure to address population growth and changing demographics in the area. It will also involve the construction of a new addition that will feature a state-of-the-art aquatic centre and equipment-based fitness space.

Due to site constraints and design requirements, the addition will be connected to the north side of the existing building, which includes the area on the northeast corner, currently occupied by the Burnhamthorpe outdoor rink. Subject to community consultation, a new refrigerated rink will be added to Gulleden Park (a park near Burnhamthorpe Community Centre) as part of the planned park redevelopment that is aligned with the building’s re-opening.

A grand re-opening ceremony will take place in Spring 2024. The exact date will be announced closer to the season.

Gulleden Park updates
While the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre redevelopment project advances, the City has also started the redevelopment process for nearby Gulleden Park. Residents in the area are encouraged to share feedback during public engagement opportunities to help the City better understand what type of park experience and amenities would best serve the community. Sign up to receive news alerts on the Gulleden Park project page.

Public art
The City is commissioning playful, engaging and accessible public art as part of the redevelopment. The artwork will be the first in the City’s permanent collection to integrate accessibility as a core value and essential component of the visitor’s experience. Mississauga residents are invited to review the five shortlisted public art proposals and provide feedback to the art selection committee to consider. Review and provide your feedback on the public art proposals on the Public Art art Burnhamthorpe Community Centre project page.
