I would like to share the following update from City staff regarding two funding applications that have recently been submitted to the Province of Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, and specifically to the Housing-Enabling Core Servicing Stream (HECS) and the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF). As outlined in the staff report on September 25th, these programs are intended to support core infrastructure projects that help enable housing for growing and developing communities.
On October 17th, an application was submitted to HECS for the Ninth Line Road Widening – Eglinton Avenue West to Derry Road West project. Under this program, the Province will fund a maximum of 50% (up to $20 million), with the municipality required to fund all remaining project costs. The City applied for the maximum permitted (50%) based on the total eligible project costs listed in the application, for a total of $20 million.
On October 28th, an application was submitted to HEWSF for the Dixie-Dundas Flood Mitigation project. Under this program, the Province will fund a maximum of 73% (up to $35 million), with the municipality required to fund all remaining project costs. The City applied for the maximum permitted (73%) based on the total eligible project costs listed in the application, for a total of $31 million.
Staff have already inquired with the Province about notification timelines, and we have been advised that for both programs, no notification timelines have been finalized, and that applicants will continue to be updated as decisions are made.
