Chris Fonseca – Biography

Chris Fonseca is a lifelong champion of community service work.  She volunteers her time locally within the Trillium Hospital, Peel Neighbourhood Services, Services for Seniors, Peel Youth Leadership through Sport, and with the Special Olympics.  As an Undergraduate and Medicine and Physiology Studies Masters student at the University of Toronto, Chris volunteered with U of T Social Services, Parks and Recreation and Children’s Aid.  Since being elected Councillor for Ward 3, she has worked closely with the United Way of Peel, Big Brother/Big Sisters of Peel as well as the Mississauga Food Bank and Youth organizations.  Some initiatives to date include:  Neighbourhood Watches, Computer Buddies linking seniors and youth, the Mississauga Summit focusing on neighbourhood development, The Snap initiative with the TRCA and healthy living with involvement in the Ward bike rides; MIAG fitness classes; and Childhood Obesity through Transform Nation.

Chris was taught the invaluable life lesson of “giving back to your community” at a young age through the examples of her parents.  Her mother encouraged her to volunteer along side her with the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels and also at the W. Ross McDonald Centre for the Blind where she taught swimming lessons and helped run music camps for the students.

She understands the importance of being fiscally responsible having run her own successful business in the Health and Wellness sector.  She has also worked extensively with not-for-profit organizations that understand the importance of responsible fiscal planning and management.

Chris lives in Ward 3 with her husband Peter and twin boys Alexander and Sebastien.  She enjoys running and walking on the many trails in Mississauga and takes her sons cycling and playing in the parks in their neighbourhood.
