TO: Residents of Ward 3
RE: POSTPONED- Flooding Community Meeting
I would like to inform the Ward 3 community that I will not be able to host my flooding community meeting on September 19, 2024 at 6 pm as planned and I am postponing the meeting to later in October. I am beyond disappointed and frustrated that staff did not present a fulsome and action based report as promised today at General Committee. In prior discussions with staff, I was promised that what was to be presented to Council on September, 18 2024 would provide clear material to be presented at our community meeting and unfortunately this did not happen.
My commitment as your elected official is to serve the community and advocate for your interests and needs and I do not think that it is fair to you to have a community meeting where information and resources have not be presented.
Therefore, I did not support the report presented today and expressed that staff did not come prepared with the information that I had requested at numerous meetings prior to General Committee today that you as a community have conveyed to me. I, alongside Mayor Parrish and my Council colleagues requested that staff come back next week with a report that is complete and demonstrates a clear action plan and information as to how we as a City can support you and mitigate flooding.
I apologize for the inconvenience but you deserve better. I will continue to meet with staff and advocate for Ward 3. Stay tuned for a meeting date in October 2024.
