It’s That Time of Year Again: Back to School! – Here are some things to Remeber!

As routines kick back into gear, here are a few quick reminders to keep our community safe:

  • Slow down in school zones and watch for flashing yellow lights.
  • Stay alert for children crossing the street, especially near intersections and crosswalks.
  • Stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

Thanks to active community feedback and support from city staff, we’ve secured numerous new and upcoming speed cushions and crossovers across the ward—making our streets safer for everyone on foot!

This Year we have 7 new locations with speed cushions! And by the end of the year, we hope to have 4 new Pedestrian Crossover locations and an additional 7 locations with speed cushions.

E-scooters Do’s and Don’ts for riders 16 years and older

If you’re riding an e-scooter, you must:

  • Be 16 years or older.
  • Wear a helmet (mandatory for riders aged 16 to 18).
  • Obey traffic signs and signals.
  • Share the road, bike lanes and trails with others.
  • Check for traffic before entering intersections.
  • Use a horn or bell before passing others.
  • Park responsibly to keep pathways clear for others.
  • Turn on your lights from sunset to sunrise and use reflectors.

Do not ride an e-scooter:

  • On sidewalks.
  • While racing with others.
  • While carrying passengers or heavy items.
  • While texting.
  • Above 24 km/h.
  • Where it’s restricted by signage.

If you’re 16 or older, brush up on riding safety, rules and etiquette in Mississauga.
