The City of Mississauga will be completing door-to-door canvassing in your neighbourhood in early October. During routine inspection of the storm sewer system, a potential cross-connection was identified in your neighbourhood.
The work will take place on two street within Ward 03:
- Lovelady Cres
- Maple Ridge Dr
A cross-connection occurs when a sanitary sewer lateral from a home is connected to the storm sewer system. This allows raw, untreated wastewater to enter the storm sewer system and eventually reach the natural environment. Untreated wastewater entering the local stormwater system leads to environmental impacts and public health risks.
What to Expect
Over the next few weeks, weather permitting, City staff and representatives from I2S (Infrastructure Intelligence Services Inc.) will be in your neighbourhood to investigate the suspected cross-connection. Staff will visit your property to conduct a dye test with your participation.
City staff will request to briefly enter your residence to complete the dye test. The test involves adding a water-soluble, coloured dye tablet to one fixture on each floor (typically a sink) and running water through it. City staff will monitor the nearby storm sewer manhole for evidence of the dye to determine whether a cross-connection may be present. The testing typically takes 20-45 minutes.
City staff will be in your neighbourhood between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday during the weeks of October 5th and October 12th. If this timeframe does not work for you, please call our coordinators at 647-991-4865 and leave a voicemail with your name, address and best callback number.
A letter is being provided in advance so that you are aware of the upcoming investigation and can expect City staff at your door.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to protect Mississauga’s stormwater system and local waterways.
