Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety in effect until April 18, 2026 at 6:00 AM
Date: April 16, 2026
Time: 11:45 AM
Issued To: Municipalities, local police, emergency services, school boards, local Conservation Authorities, media, and the public.
Note: A Water Safety Watershed Conditions Statement may be issued when there are high flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors that could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets, etc. Flooding is not expected.
Weather Conditions:
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is cancelling its Flood outlook that was issued on April 14, 2026 at 3:45 PM and downgrading to a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety.
TRCA advises that the weather system that brought significant rainfall to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has now passed, some additional rainfall (10 to 20 mm) is expected in the next 6 hours.
Issues:
Flooding is not expected in TRCA watersheds, however due to the forecasted rainfall, combined with saturated ground conditions, water levels in rivers will continue to be higher and flow faster than usual for the next two days.
Furthermore, Dam operations to release water from the reservoir is expected tomorrow in the West Don River, which will keep the water levels elevated in the West Don and Lower Don watercourses. Water may continue to pool or collect in flood plains and low-lying areas that do not drain well.
Actions:
• Stay safe around water by avoiding rivers, streams, and nearby trails and by keeping children and pets away from fast moving water and slippery banks.
• Consider postponing recreational activities during this time due to higher river water levels and flows and unstable riverbanks.
• Travel with caution by allowing extra time for commuting. and watch for ponding in low-lying areas and underpasses, or near storm drains.
• Stay informed by following local weather forecasts, and public alerts from Environment Canada.
• Share flood safety information by keeping neighbours informed, especially those without internet access.
• Municipalities and emergency services are encouraged to monitor water conditions and share safety information about public safety hazards such as high flows and unstable riverbanks.
This Water Safety, Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through April 18, 2026 6 AM. To report a flooding incident from a watercourse, please leave a message on TRCA’s floodline listed below. If you are in danger, call 911 immediately.
