This information is to provide you with an update regarding the Province’s Review of Regional Government.

An independent financial analysis was conducted by EY (Ernst & Young) and is now completed.

The analysis focused on what was reasonable and feasible regarding service delivery models for amalgamation and dissolution. It was prepared in consultation with and verified by the four Chief Administrative Officers (CAO’s) of the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton, Town of Caledon and Region of Peel.

The EY report confirms that if Mississauga were to separate from the Region of Peel, Mississauga taxpayers would see an annual savings of as much as $84 million after transition costs.

The EY report was submitted on May 21 to the Government of Ontario’s special advisors as part of their review on regional government and was presented to Region of Peel Council on May 23rd.

The official Provincial consultation period has now ended and we anticipate a decision on the topic of regional government in late summer.
